Christmas, New Years, and Beyond

The wrapping paper is put away, the house has been cleaned, the kids are either bored with their toys or outside playing with them. The world seems to be taking a break; a collective sigh after the chaos of the holidays. Time, space, and reality are blanketed with relaxation.

Unless you work.

Even worse if you work from home.

Or struggling in any way.

Many people are still reeling from the financial impact Covid-19 has had. Those who managed to pull off a wonderful Christmas for their families are now feeling the pinch of the yearly financial hangover. Trump has delayed signing the Covid-19 Relief Bill, potentially delaying the weekly payment that many people are relying on. It’s not the best way to ring in the new year.

And those who work must continue. These workers must continue to put their lives on the line. The eviction moratorium has been extended to January 31. Gee, thanks! Who will be able to realistically avoid eviction?

This break between Christmas and the New Year will undoubtedly be full of reflection, gratitude, and inspiration. It will also be a time of worry and loss. Be thankful for what you have, and let’s make social responsibility and compassion a resolution.
